Iam a life coach. And I spend my days working toward a world that will not need me.

A world with no life coaches.

Picture that world for a moment. No life coaches. But also no police, because no one is committing crimes. No lawyers, because no one is dragging anyone to court. No doctors, because no one falls ill. I know how it sounds. Impossible. I live toward it anyway, and I want to share whatever good I can to move us an inch closer.

Here is the part that touches you. To dream of a world without life coaches is to admit the world we actually live in still needs them. A healthy person does not sit in a hospital every day. But even a healthy person sees a doctor now and then, gets checked, asks how to live better. Look around. Our world is not looking especially healthy right now. All the more, then, it needs life coaches. It may need one for you.

To me, a life coach is not simply someone who performs coaching. The skills matter. They have to be learned well and practiced hard. But in the truest sense, a coach is not a technician. A coach is a person who lives a coach-like life, someone dreaming of a world where kindness and justice and righteousness are finally set in their right place.

What You Are Already Carrying

This book is an invitation to find something that is already in you. It was there before you knew you were being shaped at all.

I call it your Coaching DNA. The capacity to notice your own life. To live with purpose. To draw out the truest, deepest thing inside you.

You did not earn it and you cannot manufacture it. You were made with it. So was everyone. It is part of what it means to be made in the image of God.

Who I Wrote This For

I am a Christian, and I will not hide that. But let me be plain about who was on my mind as I wrote.

  • The person who would never call themselves religious, who simply feels something inside them wants to wake up.
  • The honest Christian who knows the Gospel in their head, who could explain it to you clearly, yet quietly wonders why it has not changed them the way they were promised it would.
  • Anyone who has felt like they are living someone else's life. Running a race that was never theirs.

You do not have to retrace the long road I walked to get here. That is the whole point. If my thinking, my experience, even my mistakes can become a stepping stone for you, and something in you wakes up, that is all I am after.
